New petition: The government must urgently rethink plans to hike taxes on UK solar

This morning I sent an email to Greenpeace's email list, explaining how the government is due to introduce huge tax hikes that could have a devastating impact on the UK solar industry. Here's the email below in case you missed it, and a link to the petition you can sign to push back.

In 2009, George Osborne told us that if he became Chancellor "the treasury will become a green ally, not a foe." There appears to have been some confusion about what is expected of a 'green ally', so, to clarify things, here's what he should have done.

Greenpeace Response to Osborne's Multi-million Pound Gas Hand-out

Responding to news today that Chancellor George Osborne is set to hand-out half a billion pounds in subsidies to the gas industry, Doug Parr, head of policy at Greenpeace, said:

“Osborne’s going to hand over hundreds of millions of taxpayers’ money to the polluting and pricey gas industry. This is clearly bonkers, for economic and environmental reasons.

Green Campaigners Scale Treasury Ahead of Government Spending Review

Four Greenpeace climbers have scaled the Treasury building in the heart of Westminster this morning as Chancellor George Osborne is finalising his public spending cuts.

The environmental campaigners are asking the Chancellor to stick to his earlier statements backing a green investment bank, which could potentially provide tens of thousands of new jobs.
