The Robina Foundation was the vision of Honeywell executive, philanthropist, horse
enthusiast, and Minneapolis and New York theatre owner James Henry Binger. Binger
outlined the mission of the Foundation and identified organizational partners
shortly before his death in 2004. Binger selected four organizations he held close
personal and professional ties to as grantees, including: Abbott Northwestern
Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota; The Council on Foreign Relations, New York, New
York; University of Minnesota Law School, Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Yale
University, New Haven, Connecticut.
The Foundation's mission states, "The Robina Foundation, a Minnesota-based private
grantmaking foundation that seeks to positively impact critical social issues by
encouraging innovation and financially supporting transformative projects of its
four institutional partners."
The Robina Foundation was a limited-life foundation, and the founder designated it to
spend approximately $150 million in assets to its grantees in a twenty year period.
The Foundation dissolved December 31, 2020.
