Cheating on climate

I was chatting to the guys from the Centre for Alternative Technology earlier today (they're running the Bluetooth Takeaway in our field at Glastonbury) about some videos we might film about what they're up to at the festival. It seems, however, that they're already video stars in their own right, having filmed and starred in their own production, Cheat Neutral.

Welcome to Glastonbury

Glastonbury is once again upon us and even though the festival proper doesn't start until Friday, the gates are open and happy campers are pouring in through every entrance. I'm currently holed up in a portacabin behind a replica of the Ark, madly editing video Tracy and I have shot over the past couple of days. We've a few technical hitches (lack of internet access being one of them) so we're a bit behind but now we're online, the stories will be coming thick and fast.

New Labour and carbon calculators

While we think it's lovely that Defra has launched a carbon calculator, we can't help but notice that a few other organisations have already developed similar tools (here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here, say).

I'm not knocking carbon calculators (they're useful tools and lots of us here in the office use them), and obviously personal action to help combat climate change is invaluable. But really, is this what David Miliband should be spending his time and our money on?

Climate change - your animations

Blimey, there's a lot of talent out there... In our competition to win Glastonbury tickets, we asked you to create images and videos about climate change, anything from how it makes you feel to what you're doing about it. Video entries had to be less than two minutes long but that was pretty much the only criterion we had.

Greenpeace gives away free train tickets at airports across the UK

Campaigners offer free train tickets to travellers at Manchester airport

UPDATE (9.25am): The booths have now all been moved by security.

Over the past hour or so, impromptu ticket exchange booths have been appearing in airports across the UK.

Greenpeace volunteers (fetchingly dressed as stewards and stewardesses - pics here) have been offering BA passengers checking into domestic flights climate-friendly train tickets.

Climate change - what you think

The entries for our competition to win Glastonbury tickets are in. We asked you to create images and videos about climate change, from how it makes you feel to what you're doing about it. We had around 60 entries - and the quality was fantastic! Apparently there's a lot of creative genius out there...

MEPs show themselves to be a bit dim

The numbers are in and sadly they weren't quite what we were hoping for. Despite the huge amount of emails you sent to MEPs, asking them to support a ban on inefficient light bulbs across the EU, not enough signed up to adopt the declaration.
