Historic mansion, the Wyeth-Tootle Manor is located at 11th & Charles sts. Built in 1879 by William M. Wyeth, it was designed by Mann Architects in Gothic style. They had travelled extensively throughout Europe to gather ideas and build the mansion which was completed in 1883. The Tootles owned the house from 1887 until it was sold.
The mansion is three stories high and has a tower. The house contains more than 40 rooms. Beautiful woodwork, imported stained glass, and hand-painted ceilings are just a few of the features found in the interior. Visitors can also experience life in the late nineteenth century. Huston Wyeth was a well-known businessman and held many positions within the city. He was active within the city's arts and manufacturing sectors. He served on the board of directors of Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was also involved with both the Waterways League of America (USA) and the American Museum of Natural History (USA). He was also an active member of the Wyeth Duck Club as well as the St. Joseph Duck Club as well as Audubon Society. He was also the president and founder of the St. Joseph Hardware Company.
