The Wyeth – Tootle Manor is a historic house located at 11th & Charles sts. William M. Wyeth constructed it in 1879. The Gothic design was created by Eckel and Mann Architects. They gathered ideas from their European travels and built the mansion in 1883. The Tootles lived there until 1887 when it was sold.
The mansion consists of three floors and a tower. The house boasts more than 40 bedrooms. Beautiful woodwork, imported stained glass, and hand-painted ceilings are just a few of the features found in the interior. The interior allows visitors to experience the life of a late 19th-century resident. The Wyeths-Tootle Mansion, located in downtown St. Joseph is a great place to visit. Huston Wyeth served several roles in the city as well. He was active in the city’s manufacturing and arts industries. He served as president of the Humane Society of St. Joseph, and on the board of Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was involved in the Waterways League of America as well as the American Museum of Natural History. He was also a member, among others, of the Wyeth Duck Club and St. Joseph Duck Club. He was also the president of St. Joseph Hardware Company which he owned and managed.
