The Wyeth - Tootle Manor at 11th & Charles sts is a historic home. Built in 1879 by William M. Wyeth, it was designed by Mann Architects in Gothic style. They had travelled extensively throughout Europe to gather ideas and build the mansion which was completed in 1883. The Tootles occupied the house until 1887 when it sold.
The mansion has three floors, and a tower. The house boasts more than 40 bedrooms. The interior is decorated with beautiful woodwork, handpainted ceilings, and imported stain glass. The interior allows visitors to experience the life of a late 19th-century resident. Near downtown St. Joseph, Missouri is the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion. Huston Wyeth, in addition to his business success, held several city positions. He was active within the city's arts and manufacturing sectors. He was president of St. Joseph Humane Society, and served as a member of the Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was also involved at the American Museum of Natural History and the Waterways League of America. He was also a member, among others, of the Wyeth Duck Club and St. Joseph Duck Club. He was also president of the St. Joseph Hardware Company.
