The Wyeth – Tootle Manor is a historic house located at 11th & Charles sts. William M. Wyeth constructed it in 1879. The Gothic design was created by Eckel and Mann Architects. They had travelled extensively throughout Europe to gather ideas and build the mansion which was completed in 1883. The Tootles occupied the house until 1887 when it sold.
The mansion has three floors, and a tower. The house boasts more than 40 bedrooms. The interior is decorated with beautiful woodwork, handpainted ceilings, and imported stain glass. Visitors can also experience life in the late nineteenth century. The Wyeth–Tootle Mansion can be found near St. Joseph in Missouri. Huston Wyeth was a well-known businessman and held many positions within the city. He was actively involved in the city’s arts and manufacturing industries. He was president of St. Joseph Humane Society, and served as a member of the Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was involved in the Waterways League of America as well as the American Museum of Natural History. He was also a member the St. Joseph Duck Club, the Wyeth Duck Club, the Audubon Society, and the St. Joseph Duck Club. He also served the presidency of the St. Joseph Hardware Company.
