Supported features for resources

Learn about Cloud Snapshot Manager supported features for cloud resources across cloud providers.

Table 1. Supported resources
Feature AWS Supported Resources Azure Supported Resources GCP Supported Resources
Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) All AWS resources All Azure resources GCP Compute Engines
Snapshot management EC2, EBS, and RDS Managed Virtual Machines except those in Scale Sets, Blob Storage (Containers)
NOTE: Blob Storage snapshots are incremental snapshots that are stored in the same container as the resources.
In CSM, the disk encryption types supported are:
  • Google Managed Encryption (default)
  • Customer Managed Encryption with a key managed by Google Cloud Key Management Service (KMS)
CSM supports zonal and regional disks.
PowerProtect DD Virtual Edition (DDVE) support Virtual Machines Virtual Machines Not supported
DBaaS support RDS, Aurora except Aurora Global Database Cluster, Redshift, DynamoDB except DynamoDB Accelerator (DAX) Cluster and Encryption at rest
NOTE:
  • Providing support for n and n-1 versions
  • Supported version for DynamoDB Global table 2019.11.21

File Services support EFS
NOTE: For information about how Cloud Snapshot Manager protects EFS, see the guide, Protect Amazon EFS (Elastic File System) with Cloud Snapshot Manager available on the Support site.

Group restore of resources Virtual Machines, Volumes, and RDS Virtual Machines Not supported
File Level Recovery
NOTE: Steps must be performed manually on the VM to restore the files from Logical Volume Manager (LVM) volumes. For more information, see the guide, Cloud Snapshot Manager - File Level Recovery with Logical Volume Manager Snapshots, available on the Support site.
Virtual Machines, Volumes (except Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID)) Virtual Machines Virtual Machines
NOTE: Steps must be performed manually on the VM to restore the files.
Application consistency using Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) VSS Capable Windows Virtual Machines Not supported Application Consistent Windows VSS snapshots are not supported.
Application consistency using custom scripts Virtual Machines Virtual Machines Linux Virtual Machines

Prepare the guest environment for application consistency before taking a snapshot, and then create and deploy a custom pre-post shell script on the guest environment. See CSM Online Help documentation for best practices.

Cross-region copies with encryption keys Virtual Machines, Volumes Virtual Machines
NOTE: Cross-region snapshot copies are incremental snapshots. If the VM is encrypted with Azure Disk Encryption (ADE) then you must take backup of the key and secret and copy them to the target region to be able to restore in the target region.
