Add PowerProtect DD Virtual Edition (DDVE) storage appliance

DDVE is a software-only protection storage system: a virtual deduplication system that provides data protection for organization and service provider environments.

Prerequisites

For both AWS and Azure, deploy DDVE outside Cloud Snapshot Manager in your cloud environment.

About this task

You can leverage the power of DDVE to maintain snapshot copies for long-term retention and to save on snapshot storage cost. You can also use the deduplication feature of DDVE for incremental snapshots.

To add DDVE, Cloud Snapshot Manager requires the following configuration (applicable for both AWS and Azure):

  • Cloud account and region where DDVE is deployed. For Azure, resource group too is required.
  • IP address or FQDN of DDVE.
NOTE: For Azure, DDVE FQDN is resolved based on the DNS settings on the CSM Proxy Container vNet (as specified in the CSM Proxy configuration).
  • DDVE deployment configuration - For AWS, DDVE Instance ID, VPC ID, and Subnet ID. For Azure, DDVE VM Name, VNet ID, and Subnet ID.
NOTE:  Cloud Snapshot Manager does not validate storage unit account names or passwords.

To understand the high-level steps required for Cloud Snapshot Manager integration with DDVE, see High level steps for integrating Cloud Snapshot Manager with PowerProtect DD Virtual Edition.

Steps

  1. Go to Infrastructure > Storage.
  2. In the Storage page, click New DDVE.
  3. In the New PowerProtect DD Virtual Edition page, provide details that are related to the storage appliance.
  4. Provide values for Maximum Read Streams and Maximum Write Streams.
Set the stream concurrence limits to control incoming and outgoing connections between Cloud Snapshot Manager and DDVE. It is applicable for both AWS and Azure.
  5. Click Save.
