Resource discovery

Browse through discovered cloud resources to select one or many of these resources to snapshot (using the Snapshot function).

You can use the options on the Cloud Snapshot Manager portal Resources page to search for and discover resources in AWS, Azure and GCP accounts, just as you can on the Protection Plan page.

After the discovery, the Cloud Snapshot Manager portal lists these resources with their detailed attributes. After you select resources of interest, you can click Snapshot Now to snapshot these resources now. These on-demand snapshots expire automatically in 7 days. To change the expiration time for the snapshots, see Change expiration of CSM snapshots.

In the page, you can also:

  • Exclude individual data volumes from the VM snapshots by selecting the Exclude data volumes option under Additional VM Settings.
NOTE: If you exclude volumes from Linux VMs, protection and recovery of the Linux VMs might fail. To avoid the issue, use the no fail settings in the /etc/fstab files. This causes the Linux VM boot sequence to ignore a failure in finding the volume. For example, UUID=123456-1234-1234-1234-123456789av /mnt/vol1 xfs defaults, nofail 0 2. For more information, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fstab.
  • Take application consistent snapshots of VMs provided the pre-requisites are met. To take the snapshots, under Additional VM Settings, select one of the options, AWS Application Consistency or Azure Application Consistency, based on the resources selected. For AWS, you can select Execute VSS snapshot of eligible Windows VMs or Execute Custom Scripts according to the requirement. For Azure application consistent snapshots are supported with custom scripts. Application Consistent Windows VSS snapshots are not supported for GCP. For GCP application consistent snapshots are supported with custom script only for Linux VM. For more information about application consistent snapshots, see Application consistent snapshots.
