CSM Proxy (Azure)

CSM Proxy is an Azure container instance (ACI) that is created on-demand by Cloud Snapshot Manager and terminated after use.

CSM Proxy can perform the following tasks:

  • Copy Azure snapshot data to DDVE.
  • Restore snapshot data from DDVE into page blobs (unmanaged disk).
  • Expire snapshot copies on DDVE.

Cloud Snapshot Manager uses Fixed Size Segmentation (FSS) with 8KiB size blocks to store snapshots in DDVE. A network profile is required to create the proxy and for the proxy to access snapshot data, the Shared Access Signature (SAS) URL of the snapshot is required.

To create the network profile, two options are provided. You can manually create it in your cloud account or go to the CSM Proxy Network page in the Cloud Snapshot Manager portal and create it there.

As part of the CSM Proxy configuration, in addition to the network profile, a storage account is also created. One CSM Proxy configuration per region per account is required.

Azure storage account is required to:

  • Create Azure Storage Queue (ASQ) for communication between Cloud Snapshot Manager and CSM Proxy.
  • Store temporary page blobs. Temporary page blobs are created in the target region storage account, that is, where the snapshot data is restored to.

To access the page blob from CSM Proxy, a storage service endpoint is required.
