Greenpeace Global Crimes Unit bust Esso's global headquarters in Texas

Dallas, Texas. Business at the international headquarters of ExxonMobil, parent company of Esso, the world's most powerful company ground to a halt this morning as the Greenpeace Global Warming Crimes Unit converged on at their compound in Irving, Texas. The move comes as ExxonMobil's Board of Directors and international executives attempt to gather from across the world for tomorrow's Annual General Meeting.

Greenpeace occupy Sizewell in 2002: 72% say no to nuclear power

150 Greenpeace volunteers have entered the site of Sizewell B nuclear power station as part of a campaign against Government plans to build a new generation of nuclear power stations. The volunteers have not entered any building or interfered with the operation of the plant but have peacefully occupied roof tops around the site. The volunteers plan to maintain a safe, peaceful and non-violent occupation of the site until the Government commits to ending the British nuclear programme.

In 2002, action against Esso got well underway in the USA, Europe and New Zealand, as Greenpeace activists around the world joined in the protest.

MAY 2002

United States: Greenpeace USA launches it's campaign against the richest company in the planet.

Canada: Greenpeace activists lock themselves to fuel pumps at Esso stations in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, while volunteers in Bush masks urge motorists not to buy Esso.

New Zealand: Greenpeace issues "A Decade of Dirty Tricks" report outlining how Esso has undermined international climate change policy.

Greenpeace today welcomes the findings of the Cabinet Office investigation into the timber procurement for 22 Whitehall and welcomes the Cabinet Office commitment to fall in line with Government timber procurement policy to use only legal and sustainable timber products.

Activists defy arrests at incinerator occupation

Thirteen activists who yesterday halted the construction of the new Basingstoke incinerator have vowed to maintain their occupation, despite the arrest of seven of their colleagues. Today bailiffs climbed onto the roof of the building and used bolt-cutters to remove protesters from the structure and ropes to lower them the hundred feet to the ground. Greenpeace climbers meanwhile are securing themselves inside the plant and others are now chained to the cranes. One hundred volunteers from anti-incineration groups across the country invaded the plant yesterday at dawn.
