Restore an AWS snapshot to another AWS account

Cloud Snapshot Manager enables you to copy snapshots to another AWS account so that you can quickly recover entire VMs or volumes from those accounts.

About this task

The snapshot is created in the same region as the resource, and then copied to another AWS account called DR account as configured in the policy. You can restore a VM snapshot from the DR account to an AWS account that you specify.

NOTE: You can only restore to a regular AWS account and not to another DR account.

For VM snapshots, the network and security settings in the saved configuration are from the original resource region. The simple one-click restore is not available when restoring a VM to a different account.

To restore a snapshot to another account, first browse for snapshots in the vault account. Then find the required snapshot and select Restore in the Snapshots dialog box . Select the cloud account to which you want to restore the snapshot. After you select the cloud account, select the encryption key for the restored snapshot. If the snapshot is encrypted and the key is not set, the volume gets encrypted with the AWS default key. If the source snapshot is not encrypted, you can ignore the encryption option. Click Restore Now to complete the restore process.
