CSM Proxy (AWS)

CSM Proxy is an AWS Fargate container instance that is created on-demand by Cloud Snapshot Manager and terminated after use. It is the component that takes data out of the snapshot bucket and copies it to PowerProtect DD Virtual Edition.

CSM Proxy is created in the cloud account and region where the snapshot to be copied is present. The proxy is created in a subnet within a VPC. The VPC can also be a shared VPC from another account. You have to configure VPC and subnet for each region in a cloud account where snapshots are to be copied to DDVE. To provide CSM Proxy Network configuration details, see Configure CSM Proxy Network. Cloud Snapshot Manager uses fixed size segmentation when copying snapshots to DDVE.

During the restore operation, CSM Proxy is created in the cloud account and the region where data is to be restored.

The subnet must either be a public or a private subnet with Network Address Translation (NAT) settings and internet access as the CSM Proxy has to communicate with direct AWS APIs to read snapshot data.

If you are not ready to give internet access to the CSM Proxy Network, then you can opt for private endpoints within the VPC. See Configure private VPC endpoints for Cloud Snapshot Manager (CSM) Proxy .
