HISTORICAL NOTE
James H. Sharp founded a subscription school in Moorhead in 1872; it existed two months. Later that year Clay County School District No. 2, a permanent five-month school district, was started. Members of the first school board were James Douglas, president; Andrew Holes, treasurer; and James H. Sharp, clerk. Around 1879, it became Clay County Independent School District No. 122. On October 31, 1955, it merged with other districts in the area, and in 1957, became Independent School District No. 152.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS
Included are Board of Education minutes, correspondence, and election records;
financial and construction files; census; teacher's annual reports, photographs,
event and commencement programs, a volume of pupils' examination papers displayed at
the 1884 World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition in New Orleans; annual
reports and budgets; educational plans, and newsletters. Topics covered in the
records include athletics, personnel, enrollment, PTA, music, and long range
planning.
